About Me

My name is Kathy Ellis, CPDT and I am a graduate of Animal Behavior College where I earned my certification as an ABC Certified Dog Trainer.  Animal Behavior College (ABC) is approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education and is an internationally recognized school.  My year long commitment to this program has provided me with a formal education in canine obedience training and understanding behavior and its motives. My certification, education and experience provide me the skills required to effectively and humanely train your dog while keeping alive the spark that makes your dog so special to you. I am also ACE Shelter and Rescue Care certified. And have recently become an AKC APPROVED CGC EVALUATOR.

Much thanks to teacher, Becky Winslow, her class and the Mentors at Cross Creek High School. They have taken their prevocational instruction time to prepare doggie treat bags and information pamplet bags for my dog obedience classes. They did a wonderful job and were a big help to me!

  1. Kathy is great! She trains the owner and the dog. Gunner learned to sit and wait on command. He is working on not pulling while leash walking. Thank you Kathy for all the great tips! Julie and Gunner (Hephzibah)

Kathy did a great job helping us train our rescue puppy. She followed up each session with detailed notes and suggestions. Above all she was very patient with our puppy and us.

Kathy has helped me brainstorm ways to address Hannah and Jolene's unruliness! She has helped me learn that it is my consistency that is ultimately going to change my girls' behavior! That means restricting access, setting up structure, and reinforcing appropriate behaviors. Things get better everyday!!

So Lil Wheezie graduated today from Good Dog Paws-itive Training with Kat Ellis. I still have a lot of work to do with Wheezie at home but Kat Ellis has put us on the right track! Thank you Kathy for your patience with Wheezie and your awesome insight.  Peanut is coming to see you next!

Thank you for saving Zena, my beautiful Anatolian Shepherd.
Zena quickly outgrew my limited training ability. It had become dangerous for me to work with her. At 6 months she was approaching 70 pounds of raw power. She is also very intelligent, stubborn, and full of puppy play. She was jumping on me and mouthing/biting to the point that my family was concerned for my safety. She was also ignoring commands that she knew. Zena is a livestock guardian but she was chasing the chickens and goats. Kathy saved my beautiful Zena. She arrived with a knowledge of the breed as well as many ideas, skills, and training methods. She observed me with Zena before she designed a training plan specifically for Zena. At 11 months Zena is well on her way to reaching her potential. I am not fearful of her. She is enjoying her work and I enjoy working with her as well as her companionship. Kathy gave me the skills and confidence to continue working and training Zena.

Working on "place"....Progress after day two is very encouraging.
